Back from Saddleback

OK, so I’m back from Pastor Rick Warren’s Saddleback presidential forum featuring John McCain and Barack Obama and I’m bushed. Get it? Uh, never mind. Maybe I’m a bit punchy after listening to the two senators for the past couple of hours and surfing madly through my notes to give you a column in Sunday’s paper on the forum.

McCain and immigration at Saddleback forum

Pastor Rick Warren is asking the candidates identical questions, so when he asked McCain about an example of going against his party and personal interests as a lawmaker McCain predictably referred to climate control, “out of control spending” and torture, but he never talked about his attempt to craft immigration reform with Sen. Ted Kennedy.

An oversight in the quick exchange or a deliberate dodge? That’s up to you decide.

I’m here at the McCain/Obama forum at Pastor Rick Warren’s Saddleback church.

Well, sort of.

I’m trying a little live-blogging, but it’s tough. They have us sequestered in a tent and we can only watch it on TV. There have been a lot of technical problems so far with the sound and access to the net, but I’ll give you details when I get the chance.
